Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.
The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.
This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".
Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears
In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.
His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a senator, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.
His son wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I urge you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."
Diplomatic Refuge Fears
Part of the magistrate's determination was the potential of his move to foreign missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a background of organizing to request asylum through a embassy office", a declaration said.
The judicial paperwork underscores that the US embassy in the national capital, Brasilia, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.
International Reactions
Bolsonaro's legal woes have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist US President Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.
He is being kept in a Federal Police station in Brazil's capital city and will experience a detention review on Sunday.
Recent Judicial Appeals
It was only on last Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with electronic monitoring.
They also asked that he be allowed to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other ailments.
Context of Sentencing
Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the presidential race to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a scheme which included plans to kill the current president and his running partner, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.
The scheme was stopped because it failed to get the endorsement of the military leaders. Lula was inaugurated without problem on 1 January 2023.
But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, thousands of his backers attacked and damaged government buildings in the capital, Brasília.
The security forces took action and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.
The judges found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to take action, restore order and bring him back to power.
At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.
He was also banned from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.
The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the 2026 national vote.
